Fengqing Ye Sheng hong cha – wild red tea from 300-year-old trees at the foot of Mount Zhonghe, Fengqing, Yunnan. A red tea (Chinese black tea) by Master Wong – our top Dian Hong (滇红) specialist in Yunnan, and the most consistent contributor to our Blind Tasting Club over the years. This is his third tea to be featured in the club – a truly wild Ye Sheng (野生) red tea made from ancient, uncultivated trees growing in his own backyard at 2,070m elevation.
This was no accident. Master Wong built his home and small factory around these trees, with the intention of preserving them and producing tea from them for decades to come. Though the trees are wild, the processing is refined – based on years of experience – resulting in a modern Dian Hong with a flavor profile that is both rich and suitable for daily drinking.
Visually modest but nutritionally dense, this tea offers notes of maple syrup, raisins, and brown sugar. A great choice for those seeking a natural, clean Chinese black tea for everyday use – with depth, presence, and character. Naturally pesticide-free and rich in essential minerals, as verified by us in lab testing in Taiwan in 2022.
