Lao cong 老樅 (old bushes) is a key concept in the yancha world. Shui Xian that has grown for decades undisturbed develops what is known as cong wei 樅味 - a woody, mossy taste that is recognized immediately and cannot be faked. This box lets you compare it across three different growing environments, all from trees more than sixty years old, two from outside the core area and one from within it.
- Wu San Di 吳三地 2025. A famous Shui Xian area outside Zhengyan. The trees grow on high ridges exposed to the wind, covered in moss, and the cong wei here is deep and pronounced. Heavy fire.
- Hui Yuan Keng 慧苑坑 2025. The most respected and most famous area in the yancha world, and one of the most prestigious teas anywhere. Sixty-year-old trees in the heart of Zhengyan 正岩, with a restrained bake that brings out the distinctive profile of the terroir: a thick, smooth texture and a long, fragrant huigan 回甘 (returning sweetness). This is an opportunity, perhaps a one-time one, to drink tea at the highest levels that exist in the commercial tea world.
- Tong Mu Guan 桐木關 2025. The birthplace of red tea, here in a wulong version that is not typical of the area. The trees grow freely in a forest beside a river, under a sustainable 野放 (yefang) approach with no human intervention, managed by the same family across generations. A dominant woody aroma, and a noticeable energy (qi) that stays through all the infusions.
The three teas in this box were selected from our 2026 Horse Year Series box, seven yancha from seven micro-terroirs in Wuyi Shan. They accompanied us through four months of summer activity in Europe, from the Paris tea festival to private workshops in Belgium, and everywhere they were among the teas that drew the warmest response. The remaining boxes are the last ones. A one-time opportunity to enjoy the high grades we sell only at our Hong Kong branch, only this time the goods are in Tel Aviv.
