A new batch: not what you knew before. This is a late-spring wild harvest of Oriental Beauty from the Emei Mountains in Northern Taiwan. A legendary tea of many names, from Bai Hao wulong and Eastern Beauty to its official, tongue-twisting title, Dong Fang Mei Ren. It is grown under wild Yefang conditions without irrigation or chemical sprays.
Unlike other Taiwanese teas that replicate Chinese styles, this is a mid-20th-century Taiwanese invention with plenty of local pride. Its secret lies in the Jassids, tiny green tea hoppers that bite the young leaves to create the iconic "Mi Xiang" (honey aroma). In Taiwan, this term is strictly reserved for leaves bitten by these specific insects.
This is the highest grade of this tea we have ever brought to the country, crafted by Master Yuping. She is a pivotal figure in the Taiwanese tea world and serves as our mentor and host on our yearly Yefang tour to Taiwan. The tea carries a rich aroma of caramel and roasted chestnuts, with notes of sesame and black pepper.
It is not a cheap tea, however... Master Yuping’s harvest is a peerless reference for the genre. These wild leaves are significantly more energetic than commercial tea, meaning less than 3 grams will yield much more than usual. We highly recommend following the brewing instructions.
